We have all tried movie/tv series marathons at some point in our lives at home, but I haven't met anyone who pulled off a movie-marathon at the theatre. Last weekend I was working on a small software project, I completed the project by 12pm on Sunday. I actually expected this work to take my entire weekend hence I didn't really plan anything for the rest of the day. I thought to try something spontaneous which is both challenging and exciting. So I decided to watch three movies back to back at a theatre. Okay, I know you are puzzled now, aren't you? You are asking yourself "It is exciting, but how it is challenging?". Let me explain!
Though I'm mostly into books since childhood, I was also deeply captivated by other kinds of activities such as watching cricket, movies, TV series and playing computer games. It all changed after graduating; apart from reading books, I dropped all other leisure time activities and allocated most of my leisure time for personal development and to learn new things. Soon, I developed a mentality that if I spend more than 15 minutes watching anything like a movie or cricket, my mind will keep telling me that I'm wasting my time. So I rarely watch anything entertaining these days. That is why doing a movie marathon was challenging for me.
Fig 1- Three Movies I watched |
Having decided what I wanted to do, I tried to find a theatre where three different movies were running, but I couldn't. So, I was forced to choose two theatres. I quickly booked tickets online and rushed to Concord, Dehiwala where the first movie was about to start at 1pm. Immediately after that movie, I rushed to Majestic City theatres just in time for the second movie. When I started watching the movie, I realised the huge sound quality difference between MC and Concord. I had watched films at both the venues previously but the sound quality rarely becomes apparent until you watch on the same day. I watched the final movie also at MC and went back home at 10.30pm. It was a fun 9+ hours of movie-marathon.
It was a completely different experience compared to doing it at home. The experience was much more intense since at home there will always be distractions and you will be forced to pause from time to time. One small noticeable downside of watching at the theatre is you will feel overwhelmed. Since you are watching on a big screen with a loud sound system, after the second movie your ears will start to beg for silence and your eyes will start to strain a bit. But I think regardless of the downside everyone should at least try once. It would definitely be a memorable experience.
